What is Mysterium Dice?

Mysterium Dice is a proudly woman-owned small business based in Cape Town, South Africa. We specialise in handmade resin dice and tabletop gaming accessories designed to bring more magic to your adventures, whether around the kitchen table or in your local game store.

Imperfections & Expectations

Every set of Mysterium Dice is handmade from start to finish in our Cape Town studio. We mix the pigments, pour the resin, demould, sand, polish, paint, clean and seal each piece individually. Your dice are created by real people, not machines.

This means:

  • No two sets will ever be exactly the same

  • Each set has its own quirks and personality

  • Slight cosmetic variations are a normal part of the artform

We work hard to ensure that:

  • The colour palette reflects the listing photos as closely as possible

  • The patterns and design elements match the set you selected

  • The overall aesthetic stays true to our product images and descriptions

However, because every batch is unique, we cannot guarantee:

  • Perfect colour matching to listing photos

  • Identical swirls, inclusions, or glitter distribution

  • Machine-level number painting

  • Purely flawless surfaces

Normal Handmade Variations

These natural traits are not considered defects:

  • Tiny bubbles or micro-particles within the resin

  • Slight corner rounding or sanding marks

  • Minor paint variations or residue

  • Pattern differences from photographed samples

  • Small differences in weight or internal density

These characteristics do not affect play and are simply the signature of true artisanal dice.

What Counts as a Defect?

While most quirks are expected, defects are rare issues that impact the function or structural integrity of the dice, such as:

  • Significant cracks

  • Warping or improper curing

  • Severe surface damage

  • A missing die in the set

If you believe your dice are defective, please contact us immediately with photos and we will sort it out.

Handmade dice are like adventurers. Each one has a history. Each one is a little bit different. Each one rolls its own destiny.

If you are looking for mathematically identical dice with factory-perfect polish, machine-made products may be a better match. If you are excited for a set of dice that is uniquely yours with a sprinkle of wandering magic baked in, then welcome to the table. We are thrilled to craft for you.

How long does it take to make and ship my dice?

All of our dice are made to order. Your set only begins its crafting journey once you complete your purchase.

Production time can vary depending on the design, since some require more intricate processes. Generally:

  • Dice sets take up to 14 business days to be completed before shipping

  • Large quantity orders may require additional time (we will contact you if so)

Important:
The lead time applies only to the creation of the dice.
Shipping time is separate and depends on our courier partner's delivery schedule.

Handmade magic takes time and we appreciate your patience while we create something special just for you.

How do discount vouchers work?

Discount vouchers can be applied at checkout.
Only one voucher may be applied per order.
Vouchers cannot be used on custom commissions or gift cards.

Do you sell gift cards?

Yes. Gift cards are delivered digitally by email with full redemption instructions.
No expiration dates. No added fees. Just pure gifting delight.

What is your return and exchange policy?

Returns are accepted on eligible South African orders within 7 days of delivery.
Shipping fees are non-refundable.

International orders are final sale due to duties, taxes, and customs costs, unless there is a confirmed defect or fulfilment error.

How will my order be delivered?

All orders are shipped from our Cape Town studio.
We work with trusted courier partners to ensure secure delivery.
Orders are processed within 1–2 business days after payment confirmation, with exceptions possible for complex handmade items.

How do I track my order?

Once your parcel is handed to the courier, a tracking number will be emailed to you automatically.

 

Do you ship internationally?

Yes. We currently ship to:

  • The United States

  • Canada

  • Mexico

  • Countries within Europe

If your region does not appear at checkout, please email hello@mysteriumdice.com and we will let you know if we can ship to your location.

How much does international shipping cost?

International shipping rates are calculated automatically at checkout.
Costs vary depending on the weight of your parcel and the destination.

For South African customers, shipping is R120 to main centres, with higher rates for outlying areas.

Will I have to pay customs fees or import taxes?

Possibly. International buyers are responsible for all duties, taxes, and customs fees charged by their own country.
These costs are not included in the shipping fee shown at checkout.

How long does international shipping take?

All dice are made to order, so production times apply before delivery:

  • Dice sets may take up to 14 business days to be completed before shipping

  • Large quantity orders may require a little extra time (we will contact you if so)

Once shipped, delivery times are dependent on our courier partner and local customs processing.

What payment methods are accepted for international orders?

We accept credit card payments only for international orders.
Bank deposit payment methods are not available for worldwide shipments.

Can I return or exchange an international order?

Due to the complexities of international duties, taxes, and high return shipping costs:
All international orders are final sale.

Returns, refunds, or exchanges are only available if we made a mistake or your dice arrive with a confirmed defect. If your parcel arrives damaged, contact hello@mysteriumdice.com as soon as possible so we can assist.

Our Handmade Dice

How are your dice made?

Each set of dice is made using high-quality epoxy resin and finished by hand. We take pride in our craftsmanship, but because these are artisanal products, small cosmetic imperfections do occur:

  • Minor corner rounding or sanding marks

  • Small bubbles or particles within the resin

  • Slight inconsistency in number painting

These features do not impact playability and are not considered defects.

Are handmade dice perfectly balanced?

All dice, handmade or factory-produced, have small factors that influence rolls. Our dice are made with great care to roll fairly and consistently, but no set can be truly “perfectly balanced” outside of specialised casino-grade production.

Safety & Care

Are there safety concerns?

Dice can pose a choking hazard and are not suitable for children under three years old. Some dice may have sharper edges.
If swallowed, seek medical attention immediately.

Keep dice away from heat or prolonged sunlight.

Why is your d4 a different shape?

Traditional pyramid-style d4s can have very sharp points when cast in resin. To avoid accidental injuries (and wasted healing spells), we use an alternate industry-compliant shape that is safer and more pleasant to handle.

How do I care for my dice?

To extend the life of your dice:

  • Store them in a protective container

  • Avoid long exposure to heat or direct sun

  • Roll on a padded or soft surface

  • Do not mix or store with metal dice

  • Clean with water or alcohol-based sanitiser using a soft cloth

  • Do not soak in liquid for long periods

A microfibre cloth can keep them beautifully glossy.
